The Indian Air Force successfully tested the extended-range variant of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on a Ship Target from a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet in the Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
Defense officials say that the missile hit the target ship right in the middle. With its longer range, the BrahMos missile is thought to be able to hit targets 400 km out at sea.
With this, the IAF has gotten a “significant capability boost” that allows SU-30MKI planes to hit land or sea targets with pinpoint accuracy from very far away, according to an official statement.

The Indian Air Force was able to hit a ship target with a BrahMos air-launched missile with a longer range from an SU-30MKI aircraft today, according to a statement from the defence branch of the Press Information Bureau.
The government said, “The missile’s long range and the SU-30MKI’s high performance give the IAF strategic reach and make it possible for it to dominate future battle fields.”

The statement said that the IAF, Indian Navy, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), BAPL, and HAL all worked hard and worked well together to make this happen.
