India Abstains From UNHRC Ukraine Resolution Vote

India didn’t vote Tuesday on a resolution of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that would have extended the mandate of the investigation into suspected war crimes by Russia during the ongoing Ukraine war.

India normally doesn’t vote on any human rights resolutions at the UNHRC because it thinks that “investigations” are a way for the west to get into a conflict zone and force its own answers, as happened in Kosovo. India always uses this reason to keep UNHRC Commissioners from going to J&K.

India has chosen not to vote on human rights resolutions about Belarus, Iran, Syria, and South Sudan because of this.

This is the fourth time the UNHRC has asked for a vote on the war between Russia and Ukraine, and India has always skipped the vote.

Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Bolivia, Honduras, Sudan, and Senegal were among the other Third World countries that did not vote. The resolution was put up by Ukraine and the West, and 28 of the 47 council members voted in favor of it. China and Eritrea voted against it, and 17 other countries didn’t vote at all.

On the other hand, everyone in the West supported the resolution. This was also clear when people voted on the human rights condition in Palestinian land that Israel controls. India, China, and other poor countries voted for the resolution, but the United States and the United Kingdom did not. The resolution said that Israel should suspend all plans to build settlements in the Golan forthwith, but the US and the UK did not agree.

The reason

India normally doesn’t vote on any human rights resolutions at the UNHRC because it thinks that “investigations” are a way for the west to get into a conflict zone and force its own answers, as happened in Kosovo. India always uses this reason to keep UNHRC Commissioners from going to J&K.
