The first Indian Air Force (IAF) center in the area, in Sector 18, has been in the works for 19 months. It is now finished and waiting to be opened by Union defense minister Rajnath Singh in the last week of April.
Group Captain PS Lamba, who is in charge of this project, said that the centre was ready after the IAF tableau was set up at the Kartavaya Marg on Republic Day. He also said, “All the scale models of the tableau, including the fighter Tejas aircraft, Netra, Parchand helicopter, Airbus C 295, IACCS work station, global satellite, and others, have been placed at the centre.”
The center was supposed to open on August 15, 2022, in the building that used to be the Government Printing Press in Sector 18. However, the date was moved to January 2023, and then again to March.
The center has a total of eight things to see, such as models of planes and displays of weapons. The best part, though, is that it has its own flight simulator.
It will show five old planes and let people see inside the cockpits. It will also let people try out flight simulators. There are also interesting displays, such as aero engines, aircraft, kiosks, and other artifacts from the air force, such as machines and fixtures, films about achievements and people, and guides. A gift shop has been set up at the museum as well.
A GNAT plane, which was famously flown by Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon to protect the Kashmir valley from Pakistani air attacks in 1971, has been put up outside the center near the light point.
An Indian Air Force MiG-21 fighter plane, which went into service in 1963, and an Air Force Kanpur-1 plane, which was India’s first plane to be built in 1951, will also be on display at the heritage center, which will have guides to help visitors.
