The Indian Army tried to clear the air on Sunday about compensation for the next of kin of Agniveer Gawate Akshay Laxman’s family by saying that it is “governed by the relevant terms and conditions of service of the soldier.” They said this to show their support for the family of the soldier who died. Soldier Agniveer Laxman died in the line of duty in Siachen, the Army said in a tweet on Sunday.
The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), IHQ of the Ministry of Defense (Army), said, “Because there were mixed messages on social media about giving money to the deceased’s next of kin, it was important to make it clear that any payments due to them were based on the soldier’s terms and conditions of service.”
“As per the terms of contract of Agniveers, emoluments authorised to a deceased battle casualty will comprise: Non-contributory insurance sum, amounting to Rs 48 lakh. Seva Nidhi was given by the Agniveer (30%), and the government matched it with an equal amount.
Interest was also added to it. Rs 44 lakh as a gift. Pay the rest of the term from the date of death until the end of the four years, which in this case was more than 13 lakh rupees. Rs 8 lakh from the Armed Forces Battle Casualty Fund was given. “Rs 30,000 in aid right away from the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA),” the ADG PI wrote.
It was earlier on Sunday that the Army remembered the operator who died, Agniveer, who died in the Siachen ice. The Army’s Fire and Fury Corps posted on X, “Quartered in snow, silent to remain; when the bugle calls, they shall rise and march again.”
This was done to show its sympathy for the family. Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman gave his life in the line of duty on the harsh heights of Siachen. Everyone in the Fire and Fury Corps is proud of him and sends their deepest sympathy to his family.
