3 Soldiers, With An Officer, Died After Falling Into Jammu And Kashmir Gorge

At least three soldiers died when they fell into a deep gorge while patrolling along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. An Army official said that a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and two other rank soldiers were among the dead.

He also said that the three men fell into the gorge on Tuesday, January 10, when they were on a routine patrol in the Macchil sector.

About deceased soldiers

The soldiers’ names were Naib Subedar Parshotam Kumar, Havildar Amrik Singh, and sepoy Amit Sharma.

43-year-old Kumar was born in the area of Bishnah in Jammu and Kashmir. He joined the Army in 1996. His wife and two children will miss him.

Singh, who was 39 years old and from the Himachal Pradesh district of Una, joined the Army in 2001. His wife and one son will remember him.

Sharma, who was 23 years old and from the Hamirpur district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, joined the Army in 2019. His mother is still alive.

 

 

Soldiers were on routine task

A defence spokesman said that the incident happened on Tuesday around 5:30 p.m., when a group of soldiers was doing a normal operational task.

He said that troops from the closest post were sent out right away to search for and save the people. “Despite bad weather and rough terrain, the search party worked hard all night and found the bodies of the three brave soldiers between 4:15 and 4:45 this morning,” he said.
