India’s nuclear tests in 1998 showed the world that even though India is a peaceful country, it will not stand for anything that hurts its pride, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said here on Thursday.
At the National Technology Day celebrations here, Singh said that India had learned from past after outsiders destroyed the center of learning at Nalanda and a cultural icon at Somnath.
Singh said at the event that also marked the 25th anniversary of the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests, “We have learned from history and decided that we will not let it happen again.”
“India’s nuclear tests sent a word to the rest of the world that even though we love peace, we won’t let another Nalanda happen again. The defense minister said, “We will not let a cultural icon like Somnath be destroyed again.”
“Every time someone hurts our pride, we will respond in kind,” Singh said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh, and top scientists were all at the event.
