Three Pakistani soldiers were martyred when terrorists opened fire on a security post in the Tirah Valley of Khyber District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to reports, armed militants launched an unexpected attack late Sunday night, targeting a military position located near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The soldiers retaliated immediately, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted several minutes.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that three soldiers embraced martyrdom during the operation. “The armed forces of Pakistan remain committed to eradicating terrorism and ensuring peace across the country,” the ISPR added.
Following the incident, additional security reinforcements were deployed to the area, and a search and clearance operation was launched to track down the fleeing terrorists. Local sources reported heavy aerial surveillance and intensified patrolling in the region.
The Tirah Valley, known for its difficult terrain and proximity to the Afghan frontier, has witnessed repeated militant activity over the years. Security experts note that several banned groups continue to exploit the region’s rugged geography for cross-border movement and planning attacks.
This latest ambush underscores the continuing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where terrorist networks have attempted to reassert themselves after a series of military crackdowns. Officials say Pakistan’s forces remain on high alert to prevent further incursions.
Analysts warn that the resurgence of such attacks signals a worrying trend that could destabilize border districts unless stronger intelligence coordination and community support are achieved.
Authorities have not yet revealed the identities of the fallen soldiers, while the area remains under heightened security as the investigation continues.
