According to a report in “Statista,” the Indian Ministry of Defence employs 2.92 million people worldwide, including active duty personnel, reservists, and civilian staff.
According to a Statista infographic on the companies with the largest workforces globally in 2022, the US Department of Defense, which employs 2.91 million people, comes in second place to the Indian Defense Ministry.
Private company Statista, with headquarters in Germany, offers information and statistics on a range of global issues.
“India’s Ministry of Defence is at the top of the list of the largest employers in the world. Total headcount, which includes active duty personnel, reservists, and civilian employees, is 2.92 million, slightly more than the Department of Defense in the United States “said the report.
According to the Hamburg-based company that specialises in market and consumer data, the People’s Liberation Army, which excludes civilian positions, employs about 2.5 million people in China.
The report continues, “The Central Military Commission, China’s equivalent of the U.S. Department of Defense, may employ as many as 6.8 million people, though that number was not deemed sufficiently reliable to be included in this list.
No company in the world has more employees than Walmart, claims the report. “The most recent data from the US retail behemoth put the number at a staggering 2.3 million. Even though Amazon is in second place and employs 1.6 million people, it is still far behind “Statista is used.
This most recent infographic from Statista shouldn’t come as a surprise given that in 2021, total worldwide military spending reached USD 2113 billion.
The United States, China, India, the United Kingdom, and Russia together accounted for 62% of expenditure in 2021, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
The US spent USD 801 billion on its military in 2021, while China, the second-largest spender in the world, spent an estimated USD 293 billion.
According to the SIPRI report, India spent USD 76.6 billion on its military, third-highest in the world.
