Taragiri, The Third Stealth Frigate In The Indian Navy’s P-17A Series, To Be Launched On September 11

On September 11, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) will launch Taragiri, the third Stealth frigate in the Indian Navy’s Project 17A. People see the building of the ship as an important step in the government’s push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat. According to the information shared by MDL, 75% of Taragiri is made up of people who live there.

“The ship will have a lot of equipment and machinery made in the country. This equipment and machinery will come from both large companies and small businesses. The “Make in India” policy gave the “indigenization” movement a new boost “In a press release, MDL said.

The keel of Taragiri was put down on September 10, 2020, and the ship is expected to arrive in August 2025. The Bureau of Naval Design, which is part of the Indian Navy, made Taragiri, which weighs 3,510 tonnes.

Taragiri: The lethal platform

The manufacturer said that the ship is about 150 metres long and 18 metres wide, and that it is powered by two gas turbines and two diesel engines. At a weight of 6670 tonnes, Taragiri can move at a top speed of 28 knots.

The supersonic surface-to-surface missile system will be added to Taragiri, making it a deadly platform against enemy warships. The vertical launch and long-range surface-to-air missile system on the ship will protect it from incoming enemy planes and cruise missiles that are meant to hit ships. Two 30 mm rapid-fire guns will give the ship the ability to defend itself close up. This gives the platform more bite.

“With an SRGM Gun, she will be able to give good naval gunfire support. The ship’s ability to fight submarines will be strengthened by triple-tube, light-weight torpedo launchers and rocket launchers that were made on board “the company who made it said.
