On September 11, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) will launch Taragiri, the third Stealth frigate in the Indian Navy’s Project 17A. The manufacturer said that the ship is about 150 metres long and 18 metres wide, and that it is powered by two gas turbines and two diesel engines. At a weight of 6670 tonnes, Taragiri can move at a top speed of 28 knots.
The supersonic surface-to-surface missile system will be added to Taragiri, making it a deadly platform against enemy warships. The vertical launch and long-range surface-to-air missile system on the ship will protect it from incoming enemy planes and cruise missiles that are meant to hit ships. Two 30 mm rapid-fire guns will give the ship the ability to defend itself close up. This gives the platform more bite.
