Swedish Parliamentary Report Sounds Alarm: Russian Attack Cannot Be Ruled Out

A report from the Swedish parliament says that a Russian military attack on the country can’t be ruled out. Sources told SVT on Sunday that this is what the report said.

The Swedish public service channel said that the report from the defense committee, which will be released today, said that even though Russian forces were busy in Ukraine, other types of military attacks against Sweden could not be ruled out.

“Russia has also made it easier for them to use military force, and they are willing to take a lot of political and military risks. Russia can still use air forces, naval forces, long-range weapons, or nuclear weapons to attack Sweden, according to a report from a parliamentary panel, which was carried by SVT.

SVT said that the study laid out Sweden’s new defense policy, which is based on membership in NATO instead of the old policy, which was based on cooperation with other Nordic countries and the EU.

After Russia’s attack of Ukraine last year, Sweden has been rushing to improve its defenses and even asked to join NATO. Sweden was asked to join, but Turkey and Hungary haven’t agreed to it yet.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in November 2022, Sweden stepped up its spending on defense. By 2026, it will meet NATO’s requirement of 2% of GDP. After the Cold War ended, the country, like many other Western countries, cut back on how much it spent on defense.
