In Goa, US Navy And The India Navy Do A Joint Special Forces Exercise

The Ministry of Defense said that the 7th edition of Exercise Sangam, a joint naval special forces exercise between the Indian Navy MARCOs and the US Navy SEALs, began on December 1 in Goa.

Exercise Sangam was first done in 1994. It is an important military and diplomatic project between the two countries that shows how much they trust and like each other.

According to a statement from the Defense Ministry, the goal of this edition, which will bring together people from SEAL Team Five in San Diego, US Navy MARCOs from INS Abhimanyu, and MARCOs from the US Navy, is to share ideas and experiences about different kinds of maritime special operations.

As part of Exercise Malabar, US SEALs, MARCOs, and the Naval Special Forces of other participating nations train together every year. The Sangam series, on the other hand, is just an exercise between the US and Indian Special Forces.

Planned to last three weeks, the exercise will give people a chance to practise and improve their skills in maritime interdiction operations, direct action missions, combat free fall jumps, special heliborne operations, and other activities.

Notably, the 18th edition of the joint Indo-US training exercise “YUDH ABHYAS 22” began last month in Uttarakhand.

Exercise Yudh Abhyas is done every year between India and the USA. The goal is for the armies of the two countries to share best practises, tactics, techniques, and procedures. The last time this exercise was done was in October 2021 at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Alaska, USA.

Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade of the 11th Airborne Division of the US Army and the ASSAM Regiment of the Indian Army took part in the drill. The training schedule is based on Chapter VII of the UN Mandate, which says that an integrated battle group should be used.

All operations related to keeping and enforcing peace are part of the exercise. Both countries’ troops will work together to reach the same goals.

Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations are also a big part of the joint exercise. Both countries’ troops practised how to help quickly and in a coordinated way after a natural disaster.
