A significant anti-terror operation was initiated in Jammu city following the discovery of suspected terrorist actions near the largest Army base in the vicinity. At around 10:50 am, gunfire erupted at Sunjawan Military Station, resulting in serious injury to one soldier.
In order to restrict movement, the Army base has been closed off and a specialized operations team has been dispatched to aid in the efforts. Earlier today, there was a brief exchange of gunfire when supposed terrorists fired upon a guard post at one of the main security camps in the winter capital.
A loud gunshot sent the SOG unit of the local police into a frenzy, as they quickly joined forces with the army in a sweeping search for the escaping terrorists. The operation is underway, but as yet, no contact has been made with the suspects.
This announcement follows a call made by a senior police officer two days ago for strong coordination among different security agencies in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu.
From April to July of this year, multiple terror incidents shook various districts in Jammu as the neighboring country’s terror facilitators persisted in their efforts to spark unrest in this usually tranquil area. Upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir will take place over three stages on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 8.
