75 Projects, Including Bridges, Roads, And Helipads, Were Started; Big Boost To ‘defence’ Along LAC With China

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh gave 75 infrastructure projects along the borders with China and Pakistan to the country on Friday. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) projects in Leh, including Shyok Setu, were opened by the Defense Minister.

Lt. Gen. Rajeev Chaudhary, who is in charge of the BRO, was also there. Rajnath is staying in Ladakh for two days.

Shivani Sharma from Times Now said that 44 of the 75 projects that were opened today were bridges, 28 were roads, two were helipads, and one was a home with no carbon emissions. There are six states and two Union Territories where these projects are happening (UTs).

All of these projects, including bridges, roads, and helipads, are important because they are all near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where Indian and Chinese soldiers have had standoffs.

Sources say that these strategic roads and helipads will be very important for putting and moving Indian troops.

China has been building similar infrastructure along the real border with India and along the part of Kashmir that is controlled by Pakistan for years. India is building this kind of infrastructure as a response to China’s building of infrastructure.

In a report, the government said: “The BRO built these strategically important projects in record time at a total cost of Rs 2,180 crore. Many of them were finished in a single working season using cutting-edge technology. The Raksha Mantri praised the BRO’s hard work and determination for getting the job done despite bad weather. He also said that the projects will improve the country’s defence readiness and help border areas grow economically.”

The news release also said that the most important part of the event was the opening of the 120-meter-long Class 70 Shyok Setu on D-S-DBO Road, which is 14,000 feet above sea level. The bridge will be important from a strategic point of view because it will make it easier for the armed forces to move their supplies.

India plans to finish building 272 roads along its northern borders by the year 2023. Many of the 75 projects that were opened today are in the western and northeastern borders.

Twelve bridges are in Jammu and Kashmir, seven are in Ladakh, three are in Himachal Pradesh, six are in Uttarakhand, two are in Sikkim, and thirteen are in Arunachal Pradesh.

Six roads have been built in Rajasthan, one in Punjab, seven in Jammu and Kashmir, eight in Ladakh, two in Sikkim, and four in Arunachal Pradesh.

One of the two helipads is in Nyoma, which is in eastern Ladakh. It is close to the LAC.

India will also improve its Nyoma advanced landing ground (ALG) so that fighter planes can use it. During the ongoing military standoff between India and China, this airfield has been used a lot. Heavy-lift Chinook helicopters and C-130J Special Operations planes have landed and taken off from here.
