Rugged Cars That Are Used By The Indian Military

People think that the Indian Army is one of the best armies in the world. So, the vehicles they drive should be as strong and tough as they are. In this article, we’ll talk about the different cars that the Indian armed forces use.

Maruti Gypsy

Maruti Gypsy has been used by the military for the longest time. The Gypsy was a well-known car, and the Indian Army liked it best. The Gypsy was made so that it could travel over any terrain without getting tired. The car had a 1.3-liter gasoline engine that made 80 horsepower and 103 Nm of torque. The car also came with four-wheel drive. Maruti Gypsy was still made for the Indian Army after it was no longer sold to regular people. The Tata Safari Storme GS800 eventually took the place of the Maruti Gypsy.

Toyota Fortuner 4×4

The Toyota Fortuner looks pretty scary when you see it on the road. The Toyota Fortuner is so well-known that it doesn’t have to prove that it can go off-road. The SUV has a 2.8-liter diesel engine that makes 175 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque when paired with a manual transmission. When this same engine is paired with an automatic transmission, it makes 450Nm of torque. The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Army use a customised version of the Fortuner to patrol, and it has a radio so that they can talk to each other. The army can also use this SUV to transport heavy weapons.

Mahindra Marksman

The Mahindra Marksman was India’s first light armoured vehicle that could protect against grenade and small arms fire. This car has a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine that makes 120bhp and 280Nm of torque. There was also a 2.6-liter diesel engine with 115bhp and 228Nm of torque available for this car. After the terrorist attacks on November 26, 2008, the Mumbai Police also put this car into service for patrols.

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra Scorpio is a popular SUV among the armed forces because it looks tough and is built well. Most of the time, Army officials drive this SUV. A 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine with 120bhp and 280Nm of torque powers the SUV. The Mahindra Scorpio is a real all-arounder that can easily handle any terrain.

Mahindra Armored light specialist vehicle

The Mahindra Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV) is a light armoured vehicle used by the military. This car is powered by a 3.2-liter diesel engine that makes 215bhp and 500Nm of torque. It has a four-speed automatic transmission with 44 and a front and rear differential locking system.

Tata Safari Storme

Tata Safari Storme is no longer made for regular people, but it is still made for the Indian Army. The Safari Storme’s civilian version had a 2.2-liter Varicor400 diesel engine that made 154bhp and 400Nm of torque. The Tata Safari Storme GS800 SUV made for the Indian Army was made with the needs of the Indian Army in mind. The engine was tuned to make 70% more power and 200% more torque than the regular Safari. The Tata Safari Storme GS800 is the most powerful Safari Storme ever made because of this.

Tata Sumo 4×4

When it comes to cars used by the Indian Army, the Tata Sumo is just as well-known as the Maruti Gypsy. The Indian Army uses the Tata Sumo 4×4 as a personal car or an ambulance because the car is big enough to fit seven to nine people. The car was also easy to drive on long trips. The Sumo has a 3.0-liter CR4 engine that makes 83 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.

Tata Xenon

The Indian Army first put in an order for 500 Tata Xenon. Most of the units went to the Border Security Force (BSF). The Xenon was made just for the BSF with four jerry cans on each side and lights for the convoy. The engine was also tweaked so that it would work better in rough places like the desert and swamps.

Tata Harrier

The Tata Harrier is the newest plane to join the Indian Army. The National Security Guard (NSG) just finished the 7,500-kilometer Sudarshan Bharat Parikrama with 47 NSG Commandos in 15 Tata Harrier Dark editions. The Harrier is powered by a diesel engine with a 2.0-liter displacement that makes 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine has both an automatic transmission with six speeds and a manual transmission with six speeds.

Renault Sherpa Light

The National Security Guard (NSG) and the Central Industrial Security Force in India use the Renault Sherpa Light, which is a tactical vehicle (CISF). This vehicle has a chassis that was made just for it and can carry a lot of weight. The CRPF also uses a heavily armoured version of this vehicle to go after militants because the vehicle can handle explosions. This vehicle has room for four people who are armed and can fire from inside.
