Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reaffirmed the timeless relevance of the Bhagavad Gita, declaring its wisdom to be a universal source of guidance, not limited to India alone. He made these remarks while inaugurating the 10th International Gita Conference in Kurukshetra, highlighting the scripture’s continuing power to shape values and inspire generations.
Addressing the attendees, Singh said that the message of the Gita – delivered over five millennia ago – still resonates strongly today. He emphasized that its teachings on duty, righteousness, selflessness, and inner strength provide a guiding principle for individuals and nations alike.
Speaking on the theme of Swadharma – the commitment to one’s own duty – he drew a connection between the Gita’s philosophy and India’s contemporary strategic choices. Referring to a recent military operation, he said that the country’s response was rooted in the principle of defending what is right, rather than acting out of anger or revenge. According to him, this approach reflects the essence of Krishna’s counsel to Arjuna: to act without attachment to outcomes, but always in service of justice.
Singh also highlighted Kurukshetra’s symbolic significance: the very land where Krishna delivered his spiritual discourse stands today as a living testament to the Gita’s message. He described the conference as more than a spiritual gathering – it is a reaffirmation of shared values and moral courage.
The three-week event, which brings together scholars, spiritual leaders, and youth, aims to foster a deeper understanding of the Gita’s teachings. Through seminars, discourses, and cultural programs, participants are exploring how the Gita’s timeless wisdom can be applied to contemporary challenges – from ethical leadership to personal well-being.
Singh’s remarks came at a moment when India is emphasizing its role in global spiritual diplomacy. By aligning its moral and strategic outlook with the Gita’s principles, the government seeks to project a narrative of strength grounded in ethical clarity and a commitment to universal welfare.
