Poland Backs India’s Right to Pursue Terrorists, Strengthening Strategic Ties

Poland has reaffirmed its support for India’s efforts to combat terrorism, with Poland’s Ambassador to India, Piotr Antoni Świtalski, stating that Warsaw supports India’s right to pursue terrorists wherever they operate. The statement reflects a clear alignment between the two countries on the need to address terrorism without double standards.

Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Świtalski said Poland stands with India on the issue of terrorism because Poland has also experienced terrorism. He stressed that his country’s position is clear and that it supports India’s right to take action against terrorists.

The remarks assume significance amid India’s continuing focus on countering cross-border terrorism and strengthening national security. Poland’s public backing also adds another important European voice to India’s diplomatic efforts against terrorism.

Beyond counter-terrorism, India and Poland are working to expand their broader strategic relationship. The two countries upgraded their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership in 2024, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland. Since then, defence, technology, trade and industrial cooperation have remained important areas of engagement.

Defence cooperation is emerging as a particularly promising area. Poland has shown interest in expanding defence-industrial ties with India, while Polish companies are looking at opportunities to sell, manufacture and invest in India. Indian defence companies have also expressed interest in exploring opportunities in Poland.

The growing defence relationship has already included cooperation involving Polish-made unmanned systems. Earlier this year, Świtalski highlighted the use of Polish drones by India during Operation Sindoor and said there was no fundamental disagreement between the two countries over India’s concerns regarding terrorism.

The latest statement therefore comes at a time when both countries are seeking to give greater momentum to their strategic partnership. Poland has also indicated that further high-level discussions on defence cooperation are expected, potentially opening the way for new areas of military and industrial collaboration.

For India, Poland’s position provides additional diplomatic support as New Delhi continues to advocate a firm and consistent international approach to terrorism. At the same time, expanding defence cooperation could create opportunities for technology partnerships, manufacturing and closer engagement between the two countries’ defence industries.

The latest developments underline the changing nature of India-Poland relations, with counter-terrorism support now complemented by growing defence and strategic cooperation. As both sides work to strengthen their partnership, security and defence are likely to remain key pillars of the relationship.
