The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is expected to publish its long-pending red-zone map next week, marking a major step toward resolving a decade-long confusion over construction permissions around key defence establishments in the region. The updated map will define the restricted areas surrounding the Dehu Road Ammunition Depot and the Dighi Magazine Depot – two high-security defence structures that require strict development control.
For years, residents and developers in several parts of PCMC have struggled with stalled building plans, rejected proposals, and unclear boundaries due to the absence of an officially demarcated red zone. This map is now set to provide long-awaited clarity to more than 4,000 property owners, particularly in areas like Nigdi, Talawade, Ravet, Kiwale, Chikhali, Moshi, Dighi, Wadmukhwadi, and Bhosari.
The red-zone survey, conducted using advanced digital and satellite-based land measurement technology, was commissioned after repeated concerns about unregulated development near ammunition depots. The exercise was aimed at accurately measuring the safety radius around each defence installation and preventing construction in high-risk zones.
According to officials, the municipality will release the final red-zone boundaries once internal verification and documentation are completed. After publication, PCMC will begin installing physical boundary markers on the ground to ensure that residents, developers, and builders clearly understand the restricted and non-restricted areas. This move is expected to reduce future disputes, prevent unauthorized development, and streamline the building approval process.
For many residents, the release of this map will determine whether their homes fall inside the prohibited zone or remain outside it-directly impacting property rights, resale value, and future construction plans. While those outside the red-zone perimeter may finally receive long-awaited approvals, strict restrictions will continue for properties that fall within the designated high-security radius.
The publication of the red-zone map is anticipated to bring much-needed clarity, transparency, and relief to thousands of families and investors who have been waiting for definitive answers for years.
