Palestine Backs India’s Bid for Permanent UNSC Seat, Calls New Delhi a Deserving Global Power

In a significant diplomatic development, Palestine has extended strong support for India’s long-standing campaign to secure a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The endorsement comes shortly after India reaffirmed its backing for Palestine’s bid for full UN membership and reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution.

Speaking in New Delhi, Palestinian Ambassador Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh stated that India fully deserves permanent membership in the UN Security Council, describing the country as one of the world’s leading powers with an important role in maintaining global peace and stability. He noted that the Security Council should better reflect today’s geopolitical realities by including major nations such as India in its permanent membership.

The ambassador’s remarks came after India once again expressed support for Palestine’s aspiration to become a full member of the United Nations. New Delhi also reaffirmed its backing for a negotiated two-state solution and announced additional humanitarian and development assistance for the Palestinian people.

India has consistently argued that the current structure of the UN Security Council no longer represents the modern global order. As one of the world’s largest democracies, a major economy, and a leading contributor to UN peacekeeping missions, India has maintained that it deserves permanent representation in the Council.

The Palestinian envoy emphasized that expanding the Security Council to include influential nations such as India would enhance the body’s credibility and effectiveness in addressing global security challenges. He also appreciated India’s continued diplomatic, humanitarian, and developmental support for Palestine over the years.

India’s campaign for greater representation at the United Nations has gained support from several countries in recent years. The latest endorsement from Palestine further strengthens New Delhi’s diplomatic outreach as it continues to advocate reforms aimed at making the UN Security Council more representative and responsive to present-day international realities.
