A senior Polish government minister has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic efforts during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating that India’s engagement with Moscow played an important role in preventing the crisis from escalating into a nuclear confrontation.
Speaking during his visit to India, Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski said PM Modi is among the few world leaders whose views carry significant weight in the Kremlin. He noted that India’s long-standing relationship with Russia has enabled New Delhi to maintain open channels of communication even at the height of the conflict.
According to the Polish minister, concerns over the possible use of nuclear weapons had reached a critical stage during the war. He said India’s leadership encouraged restraint and helped reduce tensions at a time when the international community feared a major escalation.
The remarks reflect growing recognition of India’s role as a diplomatic bridge between competing global powers. Since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India has maintained regular dialogue with both Moscow and Kyiv while consistently advocating a peaceful resolution through negotiations and diplomacy.
Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly emphasized that the present era should not be defined by war and has called for dialogue as the only sustainable path to resolving international disputes. India’s position has focused on de-escalation, humanitarian assistance, and respect for international law without directly aligning with either side in the conflict.
The Polish minister also expressed confidence that India could continue to contribute to future peace efforts, describing PM Modi as one of the international leaders capable of influencing discussions with the Russian leadership. He suggested that India’s balanced foreign policy places it in a unique position to support diplomatic initiatives aimed at ending the conflict.
India and Poland have expanded cooperation in recent years across defence, trade, technology, and strategic affairs. The latest remarks from the Polish side also underline the growing importance of India’s diplomatic influence in addressing major international security challenges.
Although the Russia-Ukraine war continues, the comments from the Polish minister have renewed attention on India’s role as a responsible global stakeholder capable of engaging with multiple sides during complex geopolitical crises.
