Kalyani M4 Debuts At India’s Republic Day Parade

After being put into service with the Indian Army, the Mbombe 4, which is made in India as the Kalyani M4, made its debut at the country’s Republic Day parade.

Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited said that the Kalyani M4’s participation in the 26 January parade was “a great example of the Make in India vision.” Together with our strategic partner, Paramount Group, we are committed to developing, making, and giving the Indian Armed Forces the best mobility platforms they can get.

Paramount said it was committed to coming up with, making, and giving the Indian Armed Forces and other armed forces around the world world-class solutions.

The first Kalyani M4s were put into service by the Indian Army in April 2022. In October, the vehicle was put into service in Jammu and Kashmir by the Army’s northern command. They have also been used for peacekeeping missions by the United Nations. Last year, 16 vehicles were given to these missions as a start.

The Indian Ministry of Defense gave Bharat Forge Limited, which is part of the Kalyani Group and works with Paramount to make the Mbombe 4/Kalyani M4 in India, a $24 million contract in February 2021. The contract for the M4 came after the vehicle and its competitors passed a series of extreme vehicle tests in India in August 2020.

The M4 is made at the Kalyani plant in Pune. Paramount said that the Kalyani M4 is a multi-role platform made to meet the needs of the military for quick movement over rough terrain and in areas where mines and IEDs are a threat.

It protects against bullets and blasts, up to 50 kg of TNT or IEDs/roadside bombs. The vehicle weighs 16 tonnes at the curb, can carry 2,300 kg, and can go as fast as 140 km/h. It has a turbocharged diesel engine with six cylinders and 465 hp made by Cummins.

last year that the first order from the Indian Army was for 27 Kalyani M4s. Since then, the Army has placed multiple orders, and the latest one is for the Israeli Spike anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system to be built into the Kalyani M4s. Business Standard said that an order had been placed for 45 Kalyani M4s, and another 23 would be used for UN peacekeeping.

Since its release in 2019, five countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Togo, and India, have ordered the Mbombe 4. In August 2022, Paramount announced that the D-Lion would be made in Thailand. It is also hoped that the Mbombe 4 will be made in Saudi Arabia.
