An official said on Tuesday that the National Investigation Agency had arrested a suspect in a terrorism case involving the use of drones to send weapons to militants in Jammu and Kashmir that was backed by Pakistan.
The eighth person accused in the case has been arrested. His name is Zakir Hussain, and he is 22 years old and from Kathua district in the Jammu area.
The case was taken over by the government firm on July 30, 2016.
The case was opened by the local police on May 29, 2018, after they caught a drone and took several rounds of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) and magnetic bombs from near the Dhalli area in Kathua.
The spokesman said that Hussain was caught on Monday in Jammu by a team from the NIA. According to the officials, he was involved in getting the weapons that were dropped from across the international line and transporting them to militants in Kashmir.
One of the seven people who were caught earlier died of a heart attack while in police custody in August of last year, and two terror suspects from Pakistan are still on the run, the spokesperson said.
The NIA charged the seven people who were caught and the two people who are still on the run on January 12 under the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Officials said the suspects were following the instructions of Sajjad Gul, who was their Pakistani handler.
“The NIA is continuing with its investigations in the matter to unravel the bigger conspiracy of Pakistan-backed terrorist groups to carry out acts of terror and violence in Kashmir and across India,” a spokesperson stated.
