Indian Navy’s 1TS Successfully Concludes Port Call in Mombasa, Strengthening India-Kenya Maritime Ties

Trainee officers gain invaluable experience as Indian and Kenya Navies engage in joint exercises and community outreach

The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), comprising INS Tir, INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Sarathi, wrapped up a highly successful three-day port visit to Mombasa, Kenya, departing on 28th September 2025. The visit concluded with a PASSEX (Passage Exercise) alongside the Kenya Navy’s KNS Shupavu, highlighting the growing maritime cooperation between the two nations.

During the visit, both navies participated in extensive professional interactions, cross-training sessions, and joint exercises at the harbor. Key events included combined performances by naval bands, a joint yoga session, damage control and firefighting drills, and community engagement activities, including a visit to a local old age home.

The Indian delegation also toured the Kenya Navy Hospital’s Radiology Department, which features a state-of-the-art CT scan facility provided by the Government of India. A deck reception on INS Shardul, co-hosted with the Acting High Commissioner of India, allowed interaction with dignitaries from the Kenyan government, defense forces, and Indian diaspora.

This successful deployment reinforces the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime security, capacity building, and strengthening long-term partnerships with Indian Ocean Region nations.
