Indian Navy to Fully Integrate BrahMos Missiles Across Fleet by 2030

Induction of the supersonic cruise missile across all major warships to boost India’s maritime strike strength.

New Delhi, August 26, 2025 – In a significant step towards strengthening its maritime strike capabilities, the Indian Navy has announced plans to arm every frontline warship with the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile by 2030.

The process of induction is already underway, with several destroyers and frigates having been fitted with the weapon system. Over the next five years, the Navy aims to ensure that all key combat vessels-destroyers, frigates, and future platforms-are equipped with BrahMos launch systems.

The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia, is regarded as one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world, capable of reaching speeds of nearly Mach 3. With a strike range of 400 km and above, it provides unmatched precision and versatility for sea-based operations.

Defence officials noted that this full-scale integration will give the Navy an enhanced ability to conduct long-range precision strikes, strengthen deterrence, and secure India’s interests in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The project also reflects New Delhi’s focus on expanding indigenous defence capabilities under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

With the BrahMos already being exported to partner nations, its deployment across the entire naval fleet not only boosts India’s combat readiness but also reinforces the country’s position as a leading maritime power in Asia.
