Late Saturday night, army troops fired on what they thought was a Pakistani drone near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir. The drone flew over Indian land for a short time before going back to Pakistan.
A lot of people searched the area in the Keri section, but nothing suspicious was found on the ground. Concerns were raised again about anti-national groups using drones to bring drugs and guns into India, but officials said that security forces are ready to stop any such attempts.
On the night between Saturday and Sunday, a moving object with a blinking light was seen in the sky near the Allahpir area of Poonch district. Officials say that police and security forces searched the area and didn’t find anything on the ground.
In the meantime, the Border Security Forces (BSF) found a Chinese-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone in a field in the town of Havelian in the Amritsar district of Punjab.
“On 12th May 2024, based on an information provided by BSF intelligence wing regarding presence of a drone in border area of district Amritsar, BSF troops immediately launched an extensive search operation in the suspected area,” the BSF said in a statement.
“During the search operation at about 05:35 pm, the troops successfully recovered 01 drone in a harvested field of village- Havelian of District Amritsar,” the army said.
“The recovered drone is identified as China made DJI Mavic 3 Classic,” they stated.
“Reliable input of BSF intelligence wing and timely action of BSF troops once again proved their commitment to plug the entry of illicit drones from across the border,” BSF said.
This is the second discovery like this in two days. The first one involved a drone carrying what was thought to be heroin.
A spokesperson for the BSF said that the event happened on May 11 at night, when security forces saw a drone moving in the area around the Amritsar border. The soldiers watched where the drone was going and blocked off the area where it was most likely to drop.
According to the BSF Public Relations Officer, at 11:40 pm, troops were able to find a small drone and a package of what they think is heroin in a farming field in the town of Havelian in the district of Amritsar.
“The recovered package, which weighed about 498 grams, was covered in yellow tape and had a flashlight and a nylon loop attached to it.” The drone that was found is a quadcopter called the DJI Mavic 3 Classic, which was made in China, the PRO said.
