Indian Army contingents have reached Alaska to take part in the latest edition of Exercise Yudh Abhyas, a high-profile bilateral military drill with the United States. The exercise, which alternates annually between both nations, is designed to improve operational coordination and enhance the ability of the two forces to operate together in challenging environments.

This year’s training is set against the backdrop of Alaska’s extreme climate, providing Indian troops with valuable experience in high-altitude and sub-zero conditions. The joint drills will cover a spectrum of scenarios such as counter-insurgency tactics, counter-terror operations, humanitarian assistance, and peacekeeping missions. Practical field exercises, live-fire demonstrations, and simulation-based training are also part of the schedule.

Despite ongoing trade frictions between New Delhi and Washington, defence cooperation has remained a central pillar of the relationship. Exercises like Yudh Abhyas highlight the growing trust and interoperability between the Indian and US armies, reflecting the shared commitment to regional stability and global security.

Military analysts believe the exercise will not only deepen tactical understanding but also signal the expanding scope of Indo-US strategic engagement, particularly in the context of the Indo-Pacific.
