A defence release said that the Kharga Corps of the Army and the Air Force did a joint exercise called “Gagan strike” in Punjab.
It said that during the exercise, attack helicopters were used as the air arm to help ground forces practise destroying enemy defences and getting deep into their territory.
The exercise also showed how well attack helicopters and mechanised columns on the ground can fire with pinpoint accuracy.
It proved that the Apache 64E and the Advanced Light Helicopter WSI were good ways to carry and drop weapons. The release said that combining these machines with ground operations had a “force multiplier” effect that made the forces more powerful in battle.
The four-day joint exercise was led by Lt. Gen. Pratik Sharma, who was the General Officer Commanding of the Khagra Corps.
The exercise was seen by Lt Gen Nav K Khanduri, who is the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Command. According to the release, he told the fighting forces to keep coming up with new ideas and stay ready for any situation on the western borders.
