The Indian Air Force (IAF) now has the Israeli Spike Non Line of Sight (NLOS) anti-tank guided missiles, which can hit targets up to 30 km away. This gives the IAF more power to destroy enemy targets that are hidden behind mountains.
Defense sources say that the Israeli Spike NLOS guided anti-tank missiles have been sent and that tests will be done soon. The NLOS missiles will now be added to the fleet of Russian-made Mi-17V5 helicopters. These helicopters will be able to hit targets from far away and can be very effective against enemy targets and assets that are hidden behind hills or mountains, sources said.
During the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, reports say that the Ukrainian forces have made good use of the anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles that Western European countries and the United States have given them. When the Chinese Army put up a lot of tanks and infantry combat vehicles near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) across from the Eastern Ladakh region, the IAF became interested in these missiles. This was almost two years ago.
Sources also said that for now, only a small number of Spike NLOS ATGMs have been bought, but that the force would try to get more of them through “Make-in-India” projects.
The air-launched NLOS ATGMs can hit targets on the ground from a safe distance. They can do a lot of damage to enemy tank units and stop them from moving forward, sources said.
Both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have added a lot of new weapons, both from India and other countries, to their arsenals. This is because of the danger that the country faces because of the Chinese’s aggression two years ago.
