In a major push to modernize its defence capabilities, India will soon conduct its largest-ever military exercise focused exclusively on drones and counter-drone systems.
The upcoming drill will bring together the Army, Navy, and Air Force, testing a wide range of unmanned aerial platforms, including surveillance drones, combat UAVs, and swarm systems. Defence officials confirmed that the exercise will be conducted across multiple locations to simulate diverse battlefield environments.
A key highlight of the operation will be the evaluation of newly developed anti-drone technologies designed to detect and neutralize hostile UAVs. These systems are expected to play a critical role in countering asymmetric threats, particularly in border regions where drone activity has sharply increased.
Military analysts say the event underlines India’s determination to keep pace with rapid advancements in unmanned warfare. “Drones are no longer limited to surveillance-they are being used for precision strikes, electronic warfare, and supply missions. This exercise is about ensuring India is fully prepared for those challenges,” a defence expert noted.
The large-scale drill also reflects India’s growing emphasis on indigenous defence manufacturing, as several of the UAVs and counter-drone platforms being tested are developed domestically under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
By organizing this unprecedented exercise, India is signaling its commitment to building a stronger, technology-driven defence ecosystem capable of protecting its skies against evolving threats.
