The India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise ‘Mitra Shakti 2025’ is progressing actively at the Foreign Training Node in Belagavi, Karnataka, where soldiers from both nations are engaging in intensive field operations and modern-warfare simulations. This annual exercise aims to strengthen military cooperation, improve tactical synergy, and deepen the long-standing defence partnership between the two neighbouring countries.
During the latest phase of training, the contingents carried out complex fieldcraft manoeuvres, including movement in built-up areas, obstacle navigation, tactical withdrawals, and coordinated small-team operations. The focus of these drills is to enhance soldiers’ adaptability during real-world counter-terror and internal-security missions.
A major highlight of this year’s exercise is the integration of unmanned aerial systems. Troops practiced drone-assisted reconnaissance, aerial surveillance for village-level mapping, and precision-based search operations. The combined use of ground teams and UAV-based intelligence showcases the shift toward technology-driven battlefield strategies.
Mixed teams from both armies also participated in weapons training, using a combination of simulators and live-fire platforms. These sessions help improve firing accuracy, weapon handling, and situational response under simulated combat pressure.
The day concluded with structured after-action reviews, where commanders from both sides evaluated performance, examined operational challenges, and refined tactics for upcoming phases of the exercise.
‘Mitra Shakti 2025’ continues to reflect the shared commitment of India and Sri Lanka to promote regional stability, enhance joint operational capability, and foster a cooperative security environment in the Indian Ocean Region.
