India and Indonesia Hold Third Defence Ministers’ Dialogue in New Delhi

Meeting reinforces growing strategic cooperation and shared vision for a stable Indo-Pacific

India and Indonesia held the third edition of the Defence Ministers’ Dialogue in New Delhi today, marking another significant step in strengthening defence engagement between the two maritime neighbours. The talks were led by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Indonesia’s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the current regional security landscape and discussed new initiatives to expand bilateral defence cooperation. The ministers emphasized the importance of closer collaboration in maritime security, defence-industrial partnerships, and strategic coordination across the Indo-Pacific.

A major focus of the dialogue was reaffirming the shared commitment to a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. Both countries expressed the need to enhance interoperability and work together on capacity-building, joint exercises, and information sharing to counter emerging security challenges.

The meeting comes at a crucial time, reflecting growing momentum in India-Indonesia defence ties. It also builds on the recent high-level exchanges between the two nations and reinforces their broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Officials noted that the dialogue will help accelerate cooperation in critical areas, particularly maritime stability and regional peace.
