Officials from the Defense Ministry say that General Anil Chauhan, who is in charge of the military, will attend the Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue in California from May 15 to May 17, 2023.
Gen. Anil Chauhan’s four-day trip to the US began on Saturday. This is his first trip outside of India. General Anil Chauhan is going to a friendly foreign country for the first time since he became CDS in October.
CDS Chauhan will go to a conference about the Indo-Pacific region and talk with top military leaders from the US, Japan, Australia, and the UK, among other countries.
The countries that are taking part in the event are from the AUKUS and the Quad, but sources have said that the event is not related to either of those groups.
This is a clear sign that the group is moving to the next level of security cooperation before the Quad Summit in Sydney on May 24.
Admiral John C. Aquilino, who is in charge of the US Indo-Pacific Command, has also invited General Yoshihide Yoshida, who is in charge of the joint staff for the Japanese self-defense forces, and General Angus Campbell, who is in charge of the Australian defense force.
A representative of the UK chief of defense staff with the rank of vice-admiral is also expected to be there. General Chauhan is coming to the US for the first time.
In August of this year, the Quad Malabar naval exercises will take place off the coast of Sydney. The meeting of the top military leaders of this group next week is seen as a game-changer.
The CDS is also coming to the US at the same time that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be there for a state visit in June. During that trip, he will have dinner with US President Joe Biden.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has talked about how important the Indo-Pacific region is. He said that India supports a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region where everyone works together to make progress and get rich.
