IAF’s MiG-29 fighter jet crashes near Rajasthan’s Barmer

An Indian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet crashed during a routine night training mission in Rajasthan, with the pilot safely ejecting. The incident occurred in Barmer.

According to the Air Force, the jet encountered a “critical technical malfunction”.

“During a routine night training mission in Barmer sector, an IAF MiG-29 encountered a critical technical snag, forcing the pilot to eject. The pilot is safe and no loss of life or property was reported. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered,” the Air Force posted on X.

According to officials, the fighter plane went down outside of the residential area at approximately 10 p.m.

Photographs captured the jet completely consumed by flames at the accident location. The site of the crash is currently being attended to by Barmer collector Nishant Jain, Superintendent of Police Narendra Meena, and other high-ranking officers.

Mr Meena said that the presence of rainwater near the crash site has hindered the arrival of fire engines.
