General Dhiraj Seth Assumes Command as 31st Indian Army Chief with VIJAY Vision

General Dhiraj Seth has officially taken charge as the 31st Chief of the Indian Army, introducing a strategic roadmap titled ‘VIJAY’ that will guide the Army’s future operational priorities, organisational reforms, and modernisation efforts.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as the Indian Army continues to strengthen its preparedness against evolving security challenges, including border tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), counter-terrorism operations, and emerging threats in the cyber and space domains.

Under General Seth’s leadership, the Army is expected to accelerate its transformation into a technology-driven force by expanding the use of drones, artificial intelligence, network-centric warfare capabilities, and advanced surveillance systems. The vision also reinforces India’s commitment to indigenous defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

The ‘VIJAY’ framework focuses on enhancing combat readiness, improving jointness among the armed forces, adopting next-generation military technologies, and investing in the professional development and welfare of Army personnel. It reflects a long-term strategy to build a more agile, modern, and self-reliant fighting force.

General Seth assumes command as the Army continues major capability upgrades, including modern artillery systems, air defence assets, mechanised formations, precision-guided weapons, and integrated battlefield networks. The increasing role of unmanned aerial systems and digital warfare is also expected to remain a key priority.

Leading one of the world’s largest standing armies, General Seth will oversee operations ranging from border security and counter-insurgency missions to high-altitude deployments and multi-domain military preparedness. His leadership is expected to play an important role in shaping India’s defence strategy, force modernisation, and operational effectiveness in the years ahead.

The appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Indian Army, with the ‘VIJAY’ vision setting the direction for future reforms, enhanced operational capability, and sustained national security preparedness.
