Encounter Underway In J&K’s Rajouri District

On Friday morning, there was a fight between terrorists and security forces, including police, in the border town of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources say that a group of terrorists in the Kandi area of the Kotranka sub-division were surrounded by security forces in a joint operation that started around 8 a.m.

It is still not clear if the terrorists were behind the Bhatta Durian ambush in Poonch district last month, in which five troops died and one was hurt, or the Upper Dangri massacre in nearby Rajouri district, in which seven civilians died and 14 were hurt earlier this year.

In the past, terrorists have moved through the area, and in August of last year, after four soldiers were killed in an attack on an Army camp at Pargal in the Budhal area, the police and security forces made touch with two terrorists in the Kesari Top area. But the terrorists were able to get away by using the dense woods as a cover.
