Defence Ministry Buys Hundreds Of Electric Light Vehicles For Indian Army, IAF

The Defense Ministry is looking for possible bidders for 439 light electric cars for the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. (IAF).

Media sources say that the Indian Army will buy 415 of these electric light vehicles and the Indian Air Force will get 24. (IAF).

Aside from this, the defense ministry will also buy 35 fast chargers for these electric light vehicles, of which 29 will go to the Indian Army and 6 to the IAF.

The “Buy (Indian-IDDM)” category will be used to buy these electric light cars, which will have at least 50% of their parts made in India.

According to the rules set by the Ministry of Defence, these electric light cars should be able to go up to 120 km/h and have a range of 400 km.

The motors in these cars should last at least 8 years or 160,000 km and be able to carry 900 kg of cargo.

The Indian Army plans to do trials in the field with bidders to see how well their products work. The Indian Army wants to replace its current fleet of Light vehicles with electric ones powered by Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) technology. This will help them get to net zero carbon emissions.
