Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday interacted with the all-women crew of the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni and congratulated them on the successful completion of their historic sailing expedition. During the interaction, he praised the officers for their courage, perseverance and commitment, describing their achievement as a proud moment for the nation and an inspiration for future generations.
The Defence Minister said the expedition demonstrated that dedication, discipline and teamwork can overcome even the toughest challenges. He noted that the team’s achievement had broken stereotypes and highlighted the increasing contribution of women in strengthening India’s defence capabilities. According to him, the successful mission reflects the confidence, professionalism and leadership of women serving in the Armed Forces.
The IASV Triveni expedition marked India’s first all-women Tri-Service circumnavigation sailing mission, bringing together women officers from the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The voyage required the crew to navigate challenging sea conditions over an extended period, testing their endurance, operational skills and ability to work together under demanding circumstances.
During the meeting, members of the expedition shared their experiences with the Defence Minister, speaking about the physical and mental challenges they faced throughout the journey. They said rigorous training, teamwork and a shared commitment to the mission enabled them to successfully complete the expedition despite adverse weather and difficult sailing conditions.
Rajnath Singh said the expedition is a shining example of Tri-Service cooperation and reflects the growing opportunities available to women across the armed forces. He expressed confidence that the success of the IASV Triveni team would encourage more young women to pursue careers in the military and contribute to the nation’s security.
The interaction was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the three Services, who congratulated the crew on their landmark achievement and acknowledged their contribution to promoting women’s leadership in India’s defence sector.
