Wing Commander Abhinav Sharma was fired from the Indian Air Force after he accidentally launched a BrahMos missile that landed in Pakistan in March of last year.
He has now filed a case in the Delhi High Court against the Ministry of Defence and the Chief of Air Staff, saying that his firing was wrong and that the Court of Inquiry did not give him a chance to defend himself.
Wing Commander Abhinav Sharma and three other IAF officers were kicked out of the service eight months ago after a court of enquiry found that they had broken the combat SOP by not making sure that all missiles loaded on the Mobile Autonomous Launcher (MAL) had their combat connectors disconnected before the convoy moved.
Sharma was blamed for not stopping the MAL from doing something dangerous when it launched the missile from the station, which led to the mistaken firing.
Sharma said that at the time of the accident, he was working as an engineering officer for the squadron and was only teaching maintenance duties in a professional and hands-on way.
It was pointed out that as an engineering officer, he never gave training on operational conduct, which was the job of the commanding officer and operations officer alone.
