Two New Radar Stations For West Bengal And Odisha By August, Confirms Coast Guard

A top Coast Guard officer said on Tuesday that by August, both West Bengal and Odisha will have two new radar posts.

With the opening of the new radar stations, there will be a total of eight of these types of stations along the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha, said Inspector General IS Chauhan, Commander of the Coast Guard for the North East Region, on Tuesday.

A new radar station will be built in each of West Bengal and Odisha. Chauhan told a news conference at the Coast Guard base in Haldia, “These will be ready to use by August of this year.”

The new radar sites will be built in West Bengal at Fraserganj in the South 24 Parganas district and at Junput in the Purba Medinipur district.

Haldia in the Purba Medinipur district and Sagar Island in the South 24 Parganas district already have Coast Guard radar units.

He said that new radar stations will be built in Odisha at Chandrabhaga and Arakhuda. There are already sites in Paradip and Gopalpur.

With these new stations, the Coast Guard will have eight radar sites along the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha, up from four before.

As it does along the rest of the country’s coastlines, the Indian Coast Guard is increasing marine patrols along the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha, he said.

The officer said that 36 new radar stations are being built across the country, and some of them are already up and running. These stations will be added to the 46 that are already in the country.

The North East Coast Guard region will get two new fighter ships soon, which will give them more power. They will join the fleet at Haldia and work with the existing fast patrol boats.
