The CV90 family of armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) can meet the Indian Army’s light tank, Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV), and Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) requirements, according to Darren Restarick, region sales director for BAE Systems Hägglunds and platform manager for BvS10 and Beowulf.
“You have three platform [requirements], according to Restarick.” You will have three times the transfer of technology, development, procurement and support, and training costs under the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 standards. This is not a tiny sum of money, nor is it a simple task. And what we’re saying is that we have a baseline platform with a modular armour system and replaceable turrets that can meet all three capabilities.
With one chassis, logistical supply chain, simulation assistance, and training [for all requirements], you may have a light tank, an FRCV medium tank, and a FICV.”
Restarick went on to say that using the same platform for three requirements, with the ability to add or subtract armour and modify turrets, will increase attrition capabilities. Depending on the current needs, the operator can “regenerate the product.”
Restarick also expects the CV90 to have India-specific development requirements. “What we’re saying is, it’s the technology and the foundation platform of a system that’s been proven and tested with great degrees of mobility,” he explained.
We might look at or discuss those [necessary developments] with Indian partners in order to move forward with a single-chassis solution for all purposes. The development time will be cut in half, and you’ll only have to do it once.”
