Army soldier Javed Ahmad Wani had not been seen since Saturday night in Kulgam. On Thursday, the police said that security forces in South Kashmir had found him.
Rifleman Wani, age 25, from the village of Achathal in the district of Kulgam was apparently taken by terrorists when he was driving home in his car after buying food in the nearby village of Chawalgam.
Kashmir’s top police officer, Vijay Kumar, said that a joint questioning would begin soon after Wani’s medical checkup. He also said that there would be more to come.
Sent to Kargil, Wani was due to go back to work on Monday. Armed men stopped Wani’s car and took him away, leaving only a pair of shoes behind.
Wani’s family made a heartfelt plea to the people who took their son, asking for his safe return. They said he was innocent and asked for forgiveness if he had done anything bad by accident.
“Please set him free and bring him home. If he did something wrong, we’re sorry. I have been through a lot of hard times. Bring Javed back to us, please. We will make him want to quit his job. I’ll keep him with me. I’m not going to send him back to work. We don’t want to hire him. In an emotional plea to the terrorists, Wani’s mother said, “We beg you.”
