25 Years Of The BrahMos Missile: IAF’s Enthusiasm For The Upcoming BrahMos-NG

Soon, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will get the BrahMos-NG (next generation), a supersonic cruise missile that will be put on smaller planes like the Tejas, Mirage-2000, and MiG-29. This move comes as India and China continue to fight over their border, so the IAF is giving several squadrons planes that can fly BrahMos.

BrahMos missiles are good for attacks on land, so the IAF has put BrahMos-modified planes in almost all of its squadrons and given them to many units. Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, who is the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), spoke at the ’25 Supersonic Years of Success’ ‘BRAHMOS Users Meet 2023’ in New Delhi. In his speech, he talked about the need for accurate and long-range firepower, since there are battles all over the world. He talked about how important it was to make a cheaper, smaller version of BrahMos that can fit on smaller platforms.

In his speech, the head of the IAF talked about the situation on the Northern borders three years ago and how the IAF realized the importance of powerful weapons that can be used very successfully for land attacks.

Because there are still wars going on all over the world, the chief said that accuracy and long-range firepower are very important and that more work needs to be done to make smaller, cheaper weapons with the same range and power.

Enhanced Capability

The head of the Indian Air Force (IAF) said that adding BrahMos to the Sukhoi Su-30 gave the frontline fighter jets a huge boost in their skills. He says that it has made the IAF’s weapons better and has made the service more of a threat.

The IAF’s main defensive weapons will still be the upgraded BrahMos and the BrahMos NG.

Gen. Anil Chauhan, who is the Chief of Defence Staff, said earlier that Aatmanirbharta “does not mean that we will make everything in India.”

‘Aatmanirbharta’ does not mean that everything will be made in India, according to him. He said that joint ventures will be made, and he used BrahMos as an example of a successful joint venture.

The India-Russia Defense Joint Venture (JV) between DRDO and NPOM is called BrahMos Aerospace.

The CDS said that the choice to set up a BrahMos manufacturing facility in the UP Defence Industrial Corridor is also a big step forward. He praised BrahMos Aerospace’s efforts to extend the life of missiles that have already been delivered.

Army Chief General Manoj Pande talked in his speech about the wars and how both manned and unmanned systems are vulnerable. He said that rockets are becoming “the vectors of choice” when it comes to attacking targets that are far away or deep in the ground.

BrahMos missiles were first used in 2007, and the Indian army is still the main user of them today.

Atul D. Rane, DG (BrahMos, DRDO) and CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace, spoke at the event. He said that India is the first and only country in the world to have a “Supersonic Cruise Missile Triad” because the global weapon is now being used by the Indian Tri-Services.

“BRAHMOS has rightfully broken the “Fifth-nation Syndrome” for us,” He talked about the 25-year supersonic trip of BrahMos and said there are many firsts: More than 100 test firings of the missile have been done from the air, the ground, and a ship. These firings have included both development tests and user acceptance tests, and they have all been a success.
